A Free Music Vacation

That's right folks. I was on a free music vacation from blogging about it. I guess you could say I was listening to a lot of internet radio. It was Labor day weekend and all. What can I say? I'm addicted.

But, I'm back again...Rambling about it.

This blog has been running unedited since 2003 when blogging was brand new. I had no idea it would be such the rage it is today.

When I went on this "free music" freakshow I changed the URL from it's original and lost my page rank. Oh well... But the old posts are still in tact. I suppose from time to time I'll continue to use this blog about my own ramblings and reviews of music and such.

Now... Just for the heck of it I'd like to share a song that my daughter turned me onto recently... The song, seemed a bit of a prophecy as right after I dug it a few times the situation was close to what actually happened.

The song is from Aimee Mann who I discovered was actually the singer of Till Tuesday back in the 80's

The Free Music Download Search

Try searching for free music or free music download on the search engines? You get plenty of places to go. The #1 spot is is probably some file sharing nonsense. Or a music streaming service or web radio. Billions of results. Plenty of silly advertisements too!

But no free music. Why? Because nothing in this world is free. Sure. you can steal it from one of the file sharing programs. Who wouldn't want to have all the songs of the Beatles for free. And plenty of people jump into the risky business of viruses and worms by using those things. And of course the legalities . It's against the law to swap protected files.

But thousands do it everyday. Probably new computer and web users that have heard you can get free music on the web free. It used to be easy and safe. And in some respects it still is but most are trying to earn the big money. And who wouldn't? I want to earn money on the web myself... I have been working at it for years.

So what is the idea behind this free music marketing plan that I am throwing together here? It's a quest of mine for folks to hear MY music that I have done with friends over the years to get heard using the power of the web.

I guess one would have a hard time finding any artists or bands that are simply uploading their tunes to the internet give away for a free download. Sure you can LISTEN to plenty of stuff by checking many websites were folks have their music to hear. MySpace is probably the most used of all of these places to get heard.

Many musicians have websites. They often use CDBaby or something similar to "sell" their tunes online. I have often questioned how much a typical original band can make from a self made CD. I'm sure the cost can be very high to do that. It can cost is high to make your own record. I KNOW that.

I used to believe that would be the wave of the future. Forget the music industry and simply make your own CD's and sell them yourself. It is very simple to do now. I own many records that I have purchased or been given by friends who have done just that. The records sound very good. But its not free music.

So the search for free music goes on. And with billions of searches done monthly I doubt your going to find the deal that I actually offer on my site. I give my songs away for free. Sure this thing I am going after is most likely a silly idea but what can I say? It's a music marketing idea. I need to get myself heard and get some kind of clout from all the years I have been doing music. And I'm not alone! You wanna be heard too right?

So you have songs on myspace and acidplanet and all of these other music sites that you want to get heard? Perhaps you should try to give it away for free too. Join me in this strange free music dream idea.

Get together some old lo-fi or hi-fi recordings. Throw together a site. Talk about the songs. And give them away for free....Free Music Downloads. It's not a another pirate activity. Your offering what people are searching for - Free Music

Finding Free Music on The Internet

Finding free music on the internet is easy... Of course it's illegal...That is not what this article is about...File sharing is morally wrong and unethical. I'm not into that at all.. I am into giving my own music away... This has been my practice since 2003.

Sure you can listen (stream) music all day long. But where do you go to download it? And why would any artist give away his music for free anyways. I mean how could all of these musicians become rich and their record companies even richer if folks are giving away music?

Well that's an understatement... I have made very little money giving it away....But the point of this article is to discuss my brainstorm of a way to market music by simply giving it away to get exposure. Getting your music heard in today's market is like next to impossible.

Tons of Unheard Music

There are tons of bands' with great songs I hear all the time that will never hear the light of day because the competition is so great and everybody is looking for a "record contract. You have a one in a million chance unless you just got that great niche of a song that is gonna catch somebody in the industry that see's the possibility of making money with it...Often at the artist's expense.

Some Musicians Don't Own their Songs!

That's what has been happening for years right? Musicians often don't even "own" their own songs... They are the ones that put the music and words together...But they don't own it... Some record executive cat does... Isn't that strange?

But if new and even established artists were to start giving away free music on the internet wouldn't that throw a wrench in the works. You really wouldn't have to give away full studio versions of the music...But simply "demo"s to promote your true record that you recorded in the studio. But to get that exposure you simply give music away. At no charge.

But What About Getting Paid For My Music?

Then there are those who argue about their work getting "stolen" by another musician. As I have read...All musicians are thief's. It's all been played before...There is nothing new under the sun they say... That's just the way it is...Some things will never change. (see what I mean?)

So you put your songs up on the internet.. Your giving it away for free. Somebody else downloads it and then reworks it and says they wrote it. Take it to a record company and make millions.. You get to hear YOUR song being played by somebody else on the radio and nobody knows the difference. OH the HUMANITY!

Copyright Issues?

But then you know it was you who wrote it...And the fact that you have the music up on a server online is a simple enough copyright for me. Any digital file from a picture to this article is automatically copyrighted.

Want My Music - Go Right Ahead.

If people wanted play or re-record my pitiful little songs...Go right ahead... I'd love to hear what you do with it. And perhaps it would get me more exposure or at least some more visits to my site so I can let folks hear my years of recordings, shows and demo's that I have on miles of tape. The more traffic to my site and blog - The better.
So this is my Free Music marketing plan...

Talk and blog about my music and songs.
Keep digitizing old lo-fi recording and work on better new versions and new songs.
Record them on my little digital 8 track recorder.
Offer ALL of it up on the internet for free.

So the goal of this free music marketing plan is to simply get my songs some exposure and get some traffic to my websites and blogs..And friends sites too so that we can spread around a better world of more accessible music... All because we love creating it..

Problem Roommates?

It can spoil a friendship... But it is never my intention to do that... Sometimes ya just gotta quit: Here is a public list of things that were troublesome to me.

No Payment Have not been paid for at least 2 months. The agreement was to pay $75.00 per week. That equals to about $600.00 in unpaid room and board. Having somebody room in your house and not pay actually cost's money to the owner because of the use of resources.

Furniture Storage - Agreed to allow to have a "yard sale" to raise money... However the efforts were fleeting at best...The furniture (crap) was then simply stacked on the driveway for 2 months. This created a lot of clutter on front of the house. There was always the promise of "There's somebody coming for it", Or "I'm getting rid of it"...But it never happened... It will cost me more money to have it hauled off to the dump.

Laundry - Only washing 2 or 3 item at a time instead of a full load. Consistently using my detergent instead of your own. Rarely courteous enough to move our clothes to dryer. Instead, they just put my wet clothes into a basket or somewhere and use the washer.

Very Little Cleaning. Only cleaning the kitchen enough to cook . Unable to search for and find wash cloths or cleaning supplies to fully clean. Rarely thoroughly cleaning.

Using TV and Lights The TV and/or lights were on in most of the house at all times. Often leaving the house leaving 2 TV's running. Or on computer and leaving TV running. I am always walking behind then and turning off stuff.

Cigarettes. Always "buying" cigarettes off of me. If you are addicted to cig's then you need to buy your own at the store... Not from me. This has become annoying.

I'm sure there are plenty of things that you don't like too...That is fine, but because it is my house YOU have to leave. Now, I have edited this post to try and not sound like an asshole. I hope I have been successful...

This would be the band I am rehearsing with now...We have a gig scheduled for next month and are hammering down to get ready for it.

The band started out as a Tulsa Blues sound but has slowly evolved into more of a hard rock thing... With some reggae and punk also..... Its sounding pretty good for a cover band...Sure, I said I would never do the cover thing again...But I need the money and want to play SOMETHING out there... And I have come to the conclusion that my originals suck anyways.... LOL

New Blogging Tool

What's up? Havin't posted on this blog much.. I'm always too busy either not blogging at all or concentrating on my 2 other blogs that tend to make me a few pennies per month...

Tonight I have been playing with a new blog tool Zemanta that seems to work rather well. I plan on using it in the future as I can use it to insert links and use pictures with links to others that will keep them from griping at me for useing their pictures and to add a little spice to my posts.

My personal life is in a wirlwind as usual but things seem to be changing a bit I think... I am looking towards God and other BIG changes could be coming about with love in the air... Hmmm?

Expensive Cell Phones

It doesn't seem to matter how hard I try cell phones just keep going up. Why does it have to cost over $200 for me and my daughters to have a cell phone...I'll cut back, add services cut services. Block stuff... No matter what the bill WILL creep back up to over $200. It just drives me crazy...

Not only that...But the bill is so incredibly hard to understand that this drives me nuts too... I can't make heads or tails out of who is using the most minutes or whatever... It's just so freakin complicated... It's like trying to read Japanese.

Are cell phones evil? Maybe.

This world would just be so much easier if everything were free or at least a bit less complex. Other bills that I get are complicated too... I find myself spending a lot of time trying to get bills ironed out and paid... How the heck can I blog and watch cable TV when I'm spending so much time studying and paying bills... Good grief.

Heck Cable TV is expensive too...And again...A complex bill...Go figure.

Commercial Drivers License

I go to CDL school next week for my job... This should be another skill that I'll have under my belt... I'd love to consider my fantasy of making a living (or extra income) using computers and the internet. But I can't live on fantasy Island forever...

I like to dream about my last job... I enjoyed the people that I worked with and the money that I made...And it's been difficult getting myself out of this slump of moving on with life after a layoff... I never thought it would suck as much as it does...

It's all Bush's fault you know... Maybe Obama will get in there and lend a hand to us laid off working poor people in the US...And by taking action I am working on "getting a life" again...

On a personal note things are going well here at home...We just struggle financally is all.

Moving to a New Host - And New Blog

I can't sleep tonight and gotta get up for a hard days work...

My blogs are in the process of being moved to a new server so everything is up in the air... I decided to take my chances with a VERY cheap host to see what happens...I think the parent company to the host is an established internet company so we will see what happens.

I am also blogging at today.com now too. To try and earn a few extra bucks... Getting laid off sucked but things are gonna change... I can feel it...

Adsense Troubles (The Blues)

On my most popular opinion blog I use adsense to try and make a little extra cash to run these expensive sites... Pretty soon I won't be able to afford that server and will do all of my bloggging on free services like this one.

I wrote a short post about DUI awhile back on the Hip Opinion. Now, ever sense I posted that article ALL of my ad's seem to be DUI lawyers and drunk driving schools and stuff... This is driving me crazy... How could that one post effect all the ad's that are displayed... The article isn't even on the front page anymore... It's an archive.

I have used googles adsence competitive add feature to try and stop it... The "reletive" content feature for google ad's isn't as smart as I once thought... It's so strange how those silly DUI ad's monopolized the entire blog.

Of course I'd rather not have ALL "christian" ad's over at my christian opinion blog either. I tried to fight that with googles back end too but the ones I blocked were simply replaced by other "christian" ad's... How about some ad's for stuff I actually like... You know...Wendy's Mcdonalds, diet coke, Capt Crunch...All the good things in life.... Go figure.

The Castle in Muskogee Holloween Festival

The Castle in Muskogee. Finally made a trip over there... We stumbled around in the dark and paid the big bucks to ride the hayride. We didn't do any of the really "scary' stuff... Kids get scared easy.. (And so do I)

Here's a Review:

Haunted Hayride - Better than I expected... Nice lighting and some scary moments. Long slow moving lines however. But once on the trailer it was pretty groovy...The guide with the microphone was a little annoying however...
Ultimate Maze - Great spooky music going on loud in there... Lights and spooky trees and tunnels. Not a lot of actors however...And people in the maze itself were trying to be actors by scaring other visitors.... Hey, if you want to scare people how about applying for a job at the castle? Your efforts to add to the experience wasn't needed.
Pirate Ship - We only sat in on this for about 5 minutes...Which is a review in itself. Perhaps if I had given it a bit more time I would have been more entertained... But the little toy Karaoke stereo they were using as a PA was rather weak. Nice juggling tho.
Enchanted Boardwalk - This was much better than I thought it would be. I pictured a bunch of cheesy Wal Mart blow up Halloween decorations...But this spooky walk through the woods and boardwalk with literally TONS of blow up lighted Halloween balloons was indeed...Enchanted...
Torture Chamber - I dunno... I guess you get what you pay for. If I had my glasses and a flashlight and the time to read the museum signs that explained the torture machines I would have been more entertained. But I didn't

I plan on taking a visit to the Hex House in Tulsa later in the season with my pretty girlfriend. We need to be scared a little more.

Cable Internet Customer

Went back to my old ISP again... There is just always some kind of drama with these things. I am trying to consolidate money so i can keep my server running and pay a high speed internet connection. I was simply paying to much having 2 different media companies running stuff...

I'm back on a cable connection... It took a minute to set up but it's buzzing along pretty good today... It seems just as fast as the highest speed DSL and I actually went with the cheapest cable connection I could get... And slowest of course.

That DSL was getting flaky as hell... It was driving me up the wall... Dropping worse than a dialup connection... Which could be around the corner if I can't control these horrible expenses after my crippling layoff... It's Bush's fault... LOL

I don't really enjoy my laptop much. In order to get the performance out of a laptop that you get out of a desktop is about $1000. My laptop simply doesn't have enough processor power or memory to deal with vista.

I am typing this post on a vista box but would rather be using XP still. Vista just isn't all that great in my opinion. Lots of people agree.

It looks pretty...But performs slow... How many people have the money to get a huge upgrade or new computer every time Microsoft comes out with a new OS? I quit trying to keep up with the technology a long time ago... I press on with what I got... And that's fine here.

Time is essential to everything we do. And there is never enough of it to go around... Especially when you enjoy laying around in the bed like I do - Sleeping ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm Only Sleeping while the time clicks by. It was John Lennons favorite thing to do. Likewise... Being lazy is all good.. But non productive.

Now isn't that a cool clock? (see link above) It was thrown together with flash from some images he found on another blog. Stupid and Random and Hilarious.

I continue on my blogging "hobby" and to get my voice heard by the millions of people who deserve to hear what I say (tee hee) I continue to run across other interesting things in the blogsphere. I am making it a point to link to other blogs that I find interesting, and, to help them (and hopefully myself) to obtain more readers... I'm still trying to earn that cup of coffee from Starbucks with nothing but blogging revenue.

It seems that the big players at making money blogging is the blogs that teach how to make money blogging... I just discovered that tonight. Go figure..

I stopped by MacDonald's the other day.... My honey was having her treatment and I was wanting a little snack and then go wait for her to finish up...

I ordered a "happy meal" in the drive threw and looked forward to a bit of salty fries and cheeseburger action...I paid the couple of bucks and got my sack of food. I drove off and started to dig in while rolling down Harvard.

I was my usual messy self and reached in the sack for a napkin. What? There ain't none...Gee... What's a fast food junkie to do?

So what the heck is up with that anyways? They should automatically put napkins in the sack for a drive through fast food purchase. I mean what if that happy meal were for my 4 year old? Just use your shirt honey..I know it sucks to have ketchup and stuff all over your face... Oh wait...They didn't give me ketchup either...

It's hard for me to remember you ALWAYS have to ask for napkins and ketchup in the drive threw.... Those guys are trying to save money you know...

Been checking out Led Zeppelin Live on VH1 Classic.... Actually I spend a lot of time in front of the tube these days... Lots' of movies and stuff....What's a poor boy do except sing for a rock and roll band you know?

The footage appears to be from the DVD's they released a few years back.... I haven't seen any of this stuff...All I remember is the song remains the same movie I saw back in high school or something...The one with all the silly footage of jimmy page's house and the gangster band manager and the drummers race cars...

This footage is just raw zeppelin on stage playing....AMAZING.... Like totally... The recording is immaculate. And they are right on together... I have hard of the Grateful Dead being in the Cosmo's together in space just jamming yet together...

Not even close to these guys.... I know that a lot of that playing they are doing is not rehearsed... They are simply going into "space" themselves and have cues as to when to end a song.... A lot of it is just straight jamming.... And they do it well... Totally in tune together as to where the other is going...Loud, stopping on a dime, and or just dropping out altogether to let a band mate improvise... Solo...

I'm blown away folks...Good stuff....
