Vista - Do you still hate it?

Mouse games to check your reaction. I bet that would really be fun on a laptop. Those quircky mouse pad's and stuff.

I don't really enjoy my laptop much. In order to get the performance out of a laptop that you get out of a desktop is about $1000. My laptop simply doesn't have enough processor power or memory to deal with vista.

I am typing this post on a vista box but would rather be using XP still. Vista just isn't all that great in my opinion. Lots of people agree.

It looks pretty...But performs slow... How many people have the money to get a huge upgrade or new computer every time Microsoft comes out with a new OS? I quit trying to keep up with the technology a long time ago... I press on with what I got... And that's fine here.

Dave,

Have you adjusted the power savings settings on your laptop to "High Performance" This will disable any of the mobile CPU throttling that is there to save battery life - In some cpu/chipsets this can be up to 60% of the CPU clock and in some cases will disable hyperthreading and multiple cores if avaialable.

additionally, alot of laptops come with a maufactures app that can adjust certain settings mostly desktop related - on a Dell this app is called QuickStep. There are sometimes CPU settings in there as well.

unless your running something at least 1.8ghz, Vista should perform ok - on par with XP providing your patched up to SP1. I'd also look into memory - Vista really performs well in 3gig of memory. As a last didtch effort, Vista has a feature called ReadyBoost that uses flash memory (like a thumb drive) as the swap file - this is faster than traditionalHD based swap space and helps improve a sluggish system

Good Luck

Thanks Dude... Just saw your comment... I am adjusting the power saving setting now to check it...

Vista runs good on my second box after I upgraded memory... I'm kinda getting used to it finally...
